Importing a goat straight from ADGA

Before you start

• Before you start: sign in to your ADGA account at app.adga.org and your MyGoatHerd farm account in two browser tabs. Use a desktop browser to save the fully rendered ADGA pedigree page; you can read this guide on a phone.
• Use this guide for a goat that is not already in your herd. If the goat already exists, use ADGA HTML Update instead of Add Goat to avoid creating a duplicate.
• Who can follow these steps: farm owners and admins are the only roles that can add or update goats. Farm hands can read both tutorials, but should ask an owner or admin to make these changes. The farm must also have write access; adding a new goat requires available counted-goat capacity.
• Farm setup check: ADGA HTML import only brings in a breed that is enabled for this farm. An owner or admin can open Farm Settings → Breeds on this farm and enable a supported breed before importing. If ADGA's breed is missing, ambiguous, or not enabled, MyGoatHerd leaves it out and the new-goat review cannot be saved until a supported breed is available.
• Capacity reminder: free or expired-trial farms normally allow 15 counted on-farm goats unless an entitlement override says otherwise; active paid, charter, and active-trial farms do not have this cap. A read-only farm still blocks additions, and the Add from ADGA HTML action cannot create a new record after the counted-goat limit is reached. For a read-only farm, contact the platform administrator; for an expired-trial cap, reduce the counted herd or contact the administrator before trying again.

1. Sign in to MyGoatHerd

Go to your farm's MyGoatHerd address and sign in with your username and password.

2. Open Add Goat

Open The Herd and click Add Goat. On the Add Goat page, choose Add from ADGA HTML. On a phone, open More to find The Herd first. This is the shortcut we're using instead of entering supported registration and pedigree fields by hand.

3. Find the goat on ADGA and open its Pedigree tab

Switch to your ADGA tab, search for the goat, and open its record. In the left-hand menu, click Pedigree so the full generational pedigree tree is rendered on the page — this is the view MyGoatHerd knows how to read.

4. Save the pedigree page as a complete webpage

With the Pedigree tab open, save the page to your computer. Press Ctrl+S on Windows or Command+S (⌘S) on Mac, or choose File → Save As.

Name the file after the goat, e.g. Poppy. Set the format to Webpage, Complete, and pick a folder you will remember. A dedicated "MyGoatHerd" folder keeps these tidy. Browser wording may vary; save an .html or .htm webpage, not a PDF, screenshot, or web archive.

5. Upload it to MyGoatHerd

Back in MyGoatHerd, click Add from ADGA HTML, then click the upload area and choose the file you just saved. MyGoatHerd parses it and shows you exactly what it found.

6. Review and confirm

Scroll through the imported record: registered name, ADGA registration number, date of birth, sex, enabled-farm breed, tattoos, and the five-generation pedigree pulled in from the page. Check Review notes for parser warnings such as a missing registration number, unsupported sex, or missing/disabled breed; details outside the supported import remain for manual entry.

Confirm the Barn Name and check that this is the correct goat. Imported details on this review screen are read-only. If the source or parsed details are wrong, choose Change file or cancel rather than confirming incorrect data; use the goat's edit form for additional details after creation.

Check “I confirm the Barn Name and imported ADGA details are correct for this new goat.” Then click Create goat. Selecting a file alone does not add a goat.

7. Done — the goat is in your herd

MyGoatHerd confirms the goat was added, and its record — including the supported breeding lines found in the saved page — is ready to view. It now shows up alongside the rest of your herd. Check the finished record and add any missing farm-specific details.
